Over 500 experienced mothers participated in a poll where I asked if these expensive name brand baby items were really worth it. Here is what they said!
This blog post is one out of a series I will be doing in the next two weeks. This post is exclusively about the name-brand items listed. I will be writing another post stating which generic baby items are most popular amongst parents, along with a list of my personal favorites. Stay tuned!
Links to everything are listed here and further insights to each item are listed below
Below are additional insights from other parents to some of the items listed above. Not every item is listed in these reviews because there was no more insight into the product other than "my baby loved it!" or "my baby hated it."
The Snoo: Although many voted that this item wasn't worth it (it is costly), I did hear from parents who loved renting or buying one used. I will say this, though, if you have big babies, they will grow out of the bassinet very quickly. On average, bassinets are used for about five months. My children are around 10lb babies at birth, so they probably only last several weeks in it, haha! The Snoo makes many promises, but it isn't the magical elixir to get your baby to sleep, from what I have heard.
Halo Bassinet: This bassinet is expensive than a generic one, but I had a few mamas let me know that this is a must for mamas who underwent a c-section due to the swivel feature and height!
MamaROO: This vote was almost split; however, the majority voted no. A few parents messaged me to say that their kids hated the swing but loved the different modes the mamaRoo had to offer. Grago offers something similar for half the price (this is what I use), and I linked both here!
Owlet Smart Sock: This was a close call, but 57% of parents said it wasn't worth the price. One mom told me it gave her SEVERAL false alarms (so scary!), and another said it saved her daughter's life! Talk about conflicting reviews of this item! Here is my advice, talk to your pediatrician about this. This is an item I have never purchased but ALWAYS think about getting any time I am pregnant. Do some research, talk to your doctor, and see if this is something that you think would be worth the investment.
Hands-Free Breast Pumps: The Willow and Elvie are the top two cordless, hands-free breast pumps that you can wear and move around in. The votes on these were split, with the majority saying neither is worth it. Some moms told me they barely got any milk from them, and others said it was a lifesaver! I have not tried either due to the price, but many moms informed me that your insurance should cover a portion of these hands-free pumps' costs. However, your standard Medela pump should be entirely covered by insurance.
Breeza Formula Mixer: I had parents reached out in disbelief that so many voted that this item wasn't worth it, but alas, over 71% of parents who took the poll said this item was not worth the cost. Many complained of mold building up very quickly or that it was just as easy to do by hand and not worth the price. However, I had mama's of multiples say this was a lifesaver! I also had mamas reach out who exclusively formula-fed and said this made all the difference, especially for those late-night feedings. My two cents are unless you are having multiples, maybe wait a bit to see if this is worth getting. What works for one mama won't always work for another :)
Wipe Warmer: The biggest complaint parents had was how quickly the wipes would get cold once taken out of the warmer. However, several parents reached out to say they absolutely loved it, especially those who live in colder areas. Some mamas said the warm wipe helped from their baby boys peeing everywhere when the diaper came off. Personally, this is an item I never even thought of using, but I did link one that is highly reviewed and loved if this is a product you are thinking about purchasing!
